Gary Nelson (born January 1934 in Los Angeles, California) is an American television and film director. He has directed many well-known television series, including ''Gunsmoke'', ''The Patty Duke Show'', ''Gilligan's Island'' and ''Happy Days'' among dozens of others. In addition, Nelson has directed five feature films, including two for Walt Disney Pictures, and many television movies, including "Murder in Coweta County" starring Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith. In 1978, Nelson was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Directoral Achievement for ''Washington: Behind Closed Doors''. He was married to actress Judi Meredith, who died in April 2014, and has two sons.
